New technologies and the digital world of the Metaverse have opened up new possibilities for companies to generate impact in a completely innovative, disruptive, and unique way.

Nowadays, they can recreate their office or laboratory in the digital world, generating rooms, accessing all kinds of interactive material, and most importantly: all in one place and with a single click.

The general concept of the Metaverse is generally those of 3D virtual worlds where people can interact, do business, and forge social connections through their unique virtual representations - “avatars.”

You can think of it as a virtual reality version of today’s internet.

Since the beginning of 2020, flexible scheduling and working from home have quickly become the new normal for lots of companies around the globe, while most of them continue to use remote work or hybrid options even post-pandemic.

Even though remote work may now be more common than it used to be, it still comes with its challenges. Let’s learn more about them.

The challenges of remote working include:

  • Managing projects effectively
  • Remote collaboration in big teams
  • Tracking the completion of tasks
  • Working from different locations, time zones, etc.
  • Dealing with language and cultural differences
  • Building and maintaining trust
  • Tracking overall productivity levels
  • Overcoming distractions while working at home
  • Staying motivated and united
  • Unplugging after work, work/life balance
  • Effective teambuilding activities

These and other challenges are spurring a search for more authentic, cohesive, and interactive remote and hybrid work experiences among businesses.

Bill Gates predicts the shift is coming faster than we might think.

The Metaverse can potentially reshape (and is already doing so) the world of work in at least four major ways:

  • Introducing new immersive forms of team collaboration;
  • Enabling the emergence of new digital, AI-enabled colleagues;
  • Accelerating learning and skills acquisition through virtualization and gamified technologies;
  • Rising the Metaverse economy with completely new types of enterprises and work roles.

New immersive forms of team collaboration

Digital offices transform team collaboration and replace the experience of being present with team members in person.

  • The spontaneous sharing of ideas as you pass a colleague in a virtual hall.
  • In the Metaverse, we can meet our team members in virtual workspaces with the help of 3D avatars, in a way that far more closely feels like the real world.

Digital Colleagues

Virtual avatars, common zones, and the possibility of organizing team-building and after-work activities in real-time create PRESENCE and solve many communication-connected challenges.

Employees create their unique avatars and navigate them to their desks via elevators and corridors. When they meet a colleague’s avatar, they activate their mic (and webcam) to have a conversation. Those are also turned off automatically as their avatar walks away.

Emotions and presence are the next frontiers in the Metaverse.

Faster Learning in the Metaverse

The Metaverse is revolutionizing training and skills development processes, drastically compressing the time needed for them.

Virtual reality role-play exercises and simulations are becoming more common, enabling worker avatars to learn in highly realistic, “game play” scenarios (such as “the high-pressure sales presentation,” “a demanding customer,” or “an exhausting employee conversation.”)

The eventual rise of the Metaverse economy

It’s not all fun and games in the Metaverse – this big world of virtual reality offers great opportunities to find business solutions that can be applied in the physical world.

The Metaverse economy offers the potential of a wide range of revenue streams, with some latest estimates predicting it could become an $800 billion market in less than two years from now and that it could contribute up to $3 trillion to the global economy by 2030-2032.

Human connections are necessary for people, while the Metaverse can help foster them. Instead of having a Zoom meeting, imagine using a VR headset and starting an immersive virtual interaction. Isn’t it a very similar feeling to those of interacting with a colleague in a physical office?

And, of course, as the Metaverse space grows and expands, so will its opportunities. More new jobs driven by technological advancements will be created as well as the demand for people knowledgeable about the space will be increased.

Here are some examples of such: play-to-earn gamer, digital fashion designer, smart contract lawyer, Metaverse engineer, and crypto payments specialist.

The Metaverse opportunities for work are now represented by digital office solutions.

This virtual work software can boost your remote team’s performance by helping both in-house and off-site teams stay connected regardless of their physical proximity. The right digital office solution can even help you maintain a strong company culture and increase employee engagement.

Space is not an issue in the Metaverse

While the traditional work style in which employees gather in a physical office to work is being forced to change, problems such as “difficulty in understanding the situation in a team” “feeling isolated and alienated while teleworking”, and “less casual chit-chatting” have also become apparent. That Is why hybrid work, which combines two ways of working, real and virtual, is in the process of becoming the new normal.

Virtual workspaces can be expanded easily, while the tasks can be delivered much faster, with almost no need for hardware. Working in the Metaverse requires minimum equipment, while 3D avatars allow you to meet “face to face” without the need for expensive conferencing equipment.

Digital offices (such as FutureWork Land) enable companies to create an interactive, dynamic world of work in which they collaborate and build more true-to-life connections through technology than they could ever think before.
